The RSPCA centre which covers the Huddersfield area is on course to rehome around 300 unwanted animals this year.

It has appealed to animal lovers across the town to support its Christmas fair and open day to help ensure the centre’s future.

The Huddersfield area is covered by the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford Branch which is on Wade Street in Halifax and is holding the event there on Sunday, December 1 12noon-3pm.

Rescue centres across the country face unprecedented numbers of animals needing help and new homes so the open day will help to raise awareness, funds and, hopefully, help find new homes for the animals.

The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford Branch has found homes for 73 dogs, 164 cats and 46 small animals so far this year.

The centre is also asking for donations of treats and toys for the animals who will be spending the festive period in their care and will have a grotto where gifts can be left on the day.

It’s free entry into the centre, but donations are very welcome to help the RSPCA team look after the animals spending Christmas in their care.

It will give people the chance to see behind the scenes how the charity works and always has animals it needs to rehome. It now has a deaf dog called Reggie and several cute kittens.

Fundraising manager Lauren Moore said: “Visitors can expect a warming festive drink on entry with lots of Christmassy fun for the family including stalls, games, raffles and delicious winter treats.

“There will be the chance to meet some of our current animal residents too and you never know, you might just meet a new furry family member.”

The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and District Branch is a self-funding branch of the national RSPCA, responsible for raising money locally to support its animal welfare work.

The main aim is to rehabilitate unwanted, abandoned and abused animals and find them loving, permanent homes. The branch relies on public donations and the generosity of the local community to keep on running.
