The Volunteer Centre for Kirklees run by Third Sector Leaders (TSL) Kirklees has been very busy during National Volunteers Week with their special Mascot ‘Vinny the Volunteer’ spreading happiness and thanking volunteers.
2023 marks the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), when thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognise the contribution volunteers make across the UK.
Vinny the Volunteer made surprise visits to a range of charities and groups to deliver some goody bags to volunteers and take some ‘bear selfies!’
This Volunteers’ Week TSL Kirklees were also able to help over 45 volunteer-run groups and small organisations thank their volunteers through their dedicated thank you fund – reaching over 1,200 volunteers who give their time and skills to help out in their local community.
Becky Bracey, volunteer services lead at TSL Kirklees, said: “Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity for us to raise awareness and celebrate the remarkable role of volunteers in our local communities who help people, places and the local environment.
“Volunteers give their time for all sorts of reasons but we know volunteering can also help people socialise, gain new skills and is generally good for your health and wellbeing.
“As the accredited Volunteer Centre for Kirklees we are here to help anyone interested in volunteering.
“Volunteers are never more needed in Kirklees and we have over 200 different types of volunteering roles advertised on our website.
“We also offer friendly one-to-one appointments to help people access volunteering. It was fantastic to see Vinny the Volunteer put a smile on people’s faces and we hope the Volunteers’ Week celebrations will encourage and inspire other local people to give volunteering a go.”
