Work on a new school building at Brambles Primary Academy in Huddersfield is well underway and the new building is on schedule to open in September.

Funded by Kirklees Council, the building includes new classrooms, dining area and curriculum support spaces. There will also be expanded kitchen facilities and investment in play areas.

Despite Covid restrictions causing some delays, the main building groundworks and foundations at the site on Clare Hill are now predominately complete, with roofing and internal structures starting to take shape.

Established in September 2018, the school has three year groups which are currently being taught in temporary modular buildings.

The additional space will allow the school to offer more places for children of local families as it continues to expand over the coming years, up to a maximum capacity of 420 pupils.

David Shepherd, strategic director for growth and regeneration, said: “This investment at Brambles Primary Academy demonstrates our shared goal for each and every child to be happy, healthy and to enjoy the best start in life.

“The new, modern facilities and additional space the new building provides will enrich the learning and developmental environment for our children for years to come.

“There’s still work to be done but things are on schedule to complete in time to welcome children back for the September term. We wish all the children, their families, and the staff at Brambles the best start to their school life in their new building when it opens.”
