A holistic beauty expert is celebrating 40 years in business with a fundraiser for The Kirkwood.

Jill Yvette Painter set up Jill Yvette’s Holistic Beauty in Cowlersley and was greatly helped by her dad, Donald Hobson, who sadly died from cancer.

So to mark the 40 years in business, Jill is holding a garden party to raise money for The Kirkwood in his memory.

Jill, 62, said: “I believe mine is the longest serving business of its type in Huddersfield. My story began with severe lifelong eczema and allergies from birth.

“When I was just 12 in 1974 I was really struggling with eczema and medical knowledge but help for eczema was limited so my ambition then was to be a beauty therapist.

“My dad and mum were the ones who stood by me at a time when no-one knew how amazing the profession was to become.”

Jill went on to create her own award-winning skin and wellbeing therapy and co-wrote a book called Beauty and the Best.

She’s holding a garden party for clients and guests this weekend in memory of Donald who died 16 years ago. He was a lecturer in electrical engineering at the University of Huddersfield and was rabbits captain at Longley Park Golf Club for many years. Her mum, Dorothy, used to teach sewing and the family lived in Fenay Bridge.

Donald Hobson – Jill’s dad

Jill said: “I’m unable to climb mountains or run marathons but one gift my dad did pass on is the enjoyment of making people smile, sharing and party planning the old fashioned way. My dad was a very intelligent and knowledgeable man, great with people and his Huddersfield university students.

“Little did I know that one day I would treat him daily as we had our little sleeps every afternoon together with Reiki. I know he never felt pain until his last two days and even then he was stringing up his tomatoes the day before he left us.

“It was always comforting to know The Kirkwood and their services were there for us should we need it and my dad always supported it whenever possible.”

Anyone who wants to support Jill’s fundraising can do so HERE.

Jill added: “Every donation is a big and vital part to enable Kirkwood to do its amazing work at a very personal time.”

Kirkwood business development manager Beverley Shaw said: “Jill Yvette’s is a long established local business and her dedication to her profession over four decades and supporting others is well known so we are honoured and delighted Jill is taking the opportunity to incorporate within her 40th year of trading a fundraiser for The Kirkwood.

“It’s only due to the support we receive from across our community, including our business community, that we can provide the care we do to local people across Kirklees diagnosed with a life limiting illness.”
