People can give children a treat this Christmas … a free trip to a panto in Huddersfield.
The Lawrence Batley Theatre has a Christmas Heroes Appeal where people donate to the theatre which means they can then invite children to a show who have probably never seen live theatre before.
Anna Scott-Spence from the Lawrence Batley Theatre, a registered charity, said: “Every year this special initiative helps bring hundreds of local children and their families to experience the joy of live theatre.
“For many children, pantomime is their first ever theatre experience and with your help, Lawrence Batley Theatre is hoping to make sure even more children enjoy this magical tradition.
“This year we are hoping to raise £15,000 which would help to bring 800 local children and families to the theatre’s 2024 Christmas pantomime, Dick Whittington.
“Live theatre has a unique way of sparking joy and creating lasting memories, especially for children experiencing it for the first time. By supporting the Christmas Heroes appeal, you’ll help bring this magic to children and families in the community who need it most.”
One group to benefit from the scheme last year was the Ukrainian Friendship Group and Natalia Mirkun from the group said: “Thank you for your amazing gift for our children’s free tickets, for the most wonderful pantomime and the most delicious ice cream in the world. You gave them real Christmas miracles.”
Every £19 donated means one child can visit the theatre complete with a VIP ticket, show programme and a free ice cream.
Anna added: “Your donation can help give them the full theatre experience – an unforgettable gift during the festive season.
“Every donation, no matter the amount, can make a real difference to a child right here in your local community.”
