Whisper it quietly but the Bank Holiday Weekend might – just might – be drier and warmer.
A dry April – with night frosts – was followed by a soaking in May and many of us have yet to switch the central heating off for the summer.
May looks like being one of the wettest on record but Huddersfield weather expert Paul Stevens reckons the prospects for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend are looking much brighter.
Salendine Nook-based Paul said: “After a very dry April, May has reversed our fortunes with many days of showers and heavy rain. So far this month 128mm has fallen – some 60mm more than normal.
“The next few days remain much the same with further showers and thunderstorms and a cool north east wind.
“As we head towards the Bank Holiday indications are for higher pressure to become established with drier conditions and some pleasant warm days. During the weekend we could hit 20C (68F).”
So will a change of month bring a change in the weather? “That’s open to debate,” said Paul.
