Police made arrests during a week of action to tackle crime at Huddersfield Bus Station.
Plain-clothed officers patrolled the bus station ‘undercover’ on Wednesday of last week with a full high visibility operation then conducted at the station on Friday with a drugs dog.
A man was arrested at the station on Wednesday for offences including assault. There were three more arrests made on Friday, including that of a young person for an assault on a member of station staff.
Patrols were also conducted at the station on the Thursday in response to calls about young people causing trouble. Several youths were taken home for officers to speak to their parents.
Other activity during the week included a number of high visibility patrols in Huddersfield town centre, stop searches for drugs and the arrest of a man in Byram Street for an offence of outraging public decency.
Proactive operations in Huddersfield Bus Station were conducted with the support of Huddersfield BID.
Insp Mark Pattinson, who manages the Huddersfield Town Centre Team, said: “Earlier this year we announced that policing would be stepped up at Huddersfield Bus Station in response to concern regarding anti-social offending there.
“Officers have since conducted multiple high visibility and plain clothes operations there, such as last week’s deployments which resulted in a number of arrests.
“We are continuing to take long-term action such as obtaining Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBO) to help us better manage repeat anti-social behaviour offenders.
“Indeed, one of the males arrested on Friday was arrested for being in breach of his CBO by being there, and has now been charged.”
Insp Pattinson added: “Reducing anti-social behaviour remains a key focus and we continue to appeal for information from residents and retailers about incidents and known offenders.
“Much more work is being planned in the run up to Christmas to keep up the pressure on those involved in anti-social behaviour and other criminality in both the daytime and evening economies.”
