A group of apprentices who study together decided to put the skills they were learning into action to help Huddersfield-based Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
The group of Business Administrator level 3 apprentices are currently studying at The National Business College on Greenhead Road in Huddersfield.
As part of their qualification they are studying project management and, as a group, decided to put what they’ve been learning into practice by running a live project.
They decided to raise money for the hospice and went down to Russell House in Brackenhall to see the work done there and how valuable fundraising is to them.
The hospice’s aim is to support any family with a child who has a life-shortening condition by providing excellent nursing care, hydrotherapy, creative therapy, days out, memory making, end-of-life care, bereavement support and counselling. Forget Me Not helps families make the most of every moment they have together.
The apprentices joined in The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Colour Run in Greenhead Park in June and raised more than £1,650 even though their original target was £250.
Within the project management module they also needed to run their own live project so hosted a coffee morning and bake sale at the National Business College, raising more £160. This brought the total for both events to £1,816.16.
The project team consisted of Joseph Ryan (apprentice at Skelmanthorpe Family Doctors), Katie Roberts (SimplyBiz), Toby Phillips (Vital Consular), Alex Leaf (Leeds Welding Company), Harry Thompson (S&G Response), Ellie Chapman (Kirklees Council) and Mary Johnson (National Business College).
The apprentices were supported by Keely Carleton and Elizabeth Bates from National Business College.
