A new group of brave Yorkshire lasses will be teasing audiences with music and movement as ‘Calendar Girls – The Musical’ comes to Huddersfield.
Huddersfield Musical Theatre Company is back at the refurbished Lawrence Batley Theatre following their spectacular staging of ‘Evita’ in 2019 and their enforced absence in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The musical is a complete rewriting of playwright Tim Firth’s film and stage play with added music by former Take That star, Gary Barlow. Tim and Gary were old schoolfriends so were natural collaborators.
The show has a range of contrasting songs with a good dose of Yorkshire humour. Company president David Payne said: “It’s a privilege to be the first in this area to stage this show and a tribute to the original women of Rylstone and District Women’s Institute whose courage and determination raised millions for Blood Cancer UK.”
‘Calendar Girls – The Musical’ runs at the Lawrence Batley Theatre from November 9-13, including a Saturday matinee. Tickets are available from the theatre: thelbt.org or 01484 430528.
