Huddersfield Laund Hill AFC Juniors u13s Lions beat North Gawber Colliery Junior u13s to win the Walter Varley Memorial Cup. Coach Jason Battye is proud of the team and believes the whole club is growing stronger.

Laund Hill beat Huddersfield Junior Football League First Division team North Gawber 3-1 in the final, with goals for Laund Hill scored by Will Battye, Anastasio Murphy-Straughan and James Tyfa. Man of the Match was Ethan Kooner from the victors in what was a terrific all round display.

Having been relegated to the Second Division last season and having been on the end of some harsh scorelines in that league, this cup win was made even more special by the fact Laund Hill beat three other First Division sides on the way to lifting the silverware.

On the cup win Jason said: “I am so proud of the team. To beat four First Division sides to win the cup is a fantastic effort. We try to teach the players good morals in football, to keep trying, to stick together, to help each other and that’s just what they did.

“Our first team has players from seven different schools, so lots of the players didn’t know each other before coming to us. We try to keep the club fun and positive and so to win the cup and the Division Two title and hopefully get promoted back at the first attempt is a fantastic achievement.

“We have over 50 players at u13 level making three teams and that just shows the club is growing all the time and we are very proud to be working with these kids to make a successful team.”
