A blind man is setting up a new charity and wants people to become trustees.
Wayne Senior says he wants the new charity to provide support to disabled people who want to visit people and organisations to discuss how they may benefit from co-production.
The charity will be called Empowerment and Sustainability Through Co-Production which gives people an equal say in the services and support they receive.
The charity, which will be based at the Chestnut Centre in Deighton, is led by Wayne who has experience in co-production and needs at least two trustees so the charity can be constituted and registered. Once the charity is set up it will seek more trustees.
Wayne is campaigns and compliance officer for Kirklees and Calderdale Independent ME Support Group and helpline support group supervisor for national anxiety charity No Panic.
He said: “I’m hoping to receive enhanced support from trustees who have experience of working with supported living residents or small groups and understands their challenges and needs.
“Co-production can be defined as service users and their representatives, and service managers and commissioners, working to develop, improve and sustain services as equals together.
“In another form of co-production, staff or volunteers may equally involve service users or participants in decisions.
“In both these forms of co-production, disabled people have a significant say in decisions that matter to them. This is different from consultation where people are asked what they want to happen, but what happens is decided by somebody else.”
Trustee roles will involve reviewing and approving changes to governing documents including finances, attending meetings and contributing ideas for new co-production initiatives.
Wayne added: “There would not be much work for trustees, as this would not be a mass-membership charity.
“There would be two or three meetings a year and occasional emails. I would do as much of the work of the charity as I could do myself.”
