Emley’s four-match winning streak may have been ended but a hard-fought goalless draw at another in-form side, Bradford Park Avenue, meant another game unbeaten – and a fifth successive clean sheet.

Defences were on top at the Horsfall Stadium on Tuesday night but the Pewits stretched their unbeaten run to five matches and remain top of the Northern Premier League Division 1 East.

There was little between the two sides all night and though it wasn’t a good spectacle, it was a good battle.

Park Avenue, now unbeaten in seven themselves, almost scored in the first half when Emley keeper Dec Lambton was caught out with a short pass but former Emley man Paddy Sykes couldn’t find a finish.

In the second half Laurence Sorhaindo had a curler that curled too far and was just off target before Lambton was in action again, keeping a header out then making a clearance as Sykes attacked.

Lambton again thwarted Sykes and Connor Shanks fired wide.

The game opened up late on with Alex Metcalfe and Luke Parkin going close for the visitors.

Emley are back at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday October 26 (3.00) when they host Dunston.
