A concert for organ and trumpet at Farnley Tyas will include a piece of music written specially for one of the soloists.
Organist Gordon Stewart will be joined for the event at St Lucius’ Church on Friday, April 22 by trumpeter Tom Osborne from the Hallé Orchestra.
When Gordon retired as Huddersfield Borough Organist in 2020 after 30 years, Almondbury composer Robert Cockroft wrote a farewell piece for him called Valediction.
Now arranged for trumpet and organ, it will feature in the programme alongside music by Albinoni, JS Bach, Jeremiah Clarke, Frederick Wood and Ennio Morricone.
The free concert, which starts at 7.30pm, is a prelude to a three-day Flower Festival at Farnley which opens on April 28. More details: www.farnleytyaschurch.org/events.html
