Emley AFC came through a tough test of their unbeaten start to the season as they fought out a goalless draw at Pontefract Collieries.
The two sides slugged it out for 93 minutes but the Pewits came away with a point to remain top of the Northern Premier League Division 1 East.
There was a distinct retro feel clash of styles here, Ponte aiming to be direct and aggressive, Emley looking for neat, patient passing but both sides were more than happy to mix it up.
Emley came the closest to scoring around the half hour mark when a free-kick from outside the box was set up for Alex Metcalfe.
The Emley skipper’s effort was tipped onto the crossbar by the keeper and the ball went out for a corner.
In the second half Emley keeper Dec Lambton was relieved to see a lob drift just past the post. The home side carried plenty of threat, much of it could be described as aerial bombardment.
Emley pushed for a winner in the last 20 minutes but Amir Berchil and Donae Lawrence couldn’t quite fashion a breakthrough.
In the end it was a well-earned point for Emley who host North Ferriby at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday October 5 (3.00).
