A planning application for the new Huddersfield Police Station is expected to be submitted in August 2024.

Concept images of the new police station in Northgate, off Huddersfield Ring Road, were released as part of a pre-planning consultation process, which has just closed.

West Yorkshire Police have also written to residents near the derelict former Nissan/Fiat car dealership site to inform them that design works for the building have begun. The new station will face onto Broadway with an exit onto Lower Fitzwilliam Street.

It is intended the new police station will accommodate all the Huddersfield policing teams currently based at the existing police station in Castlegate. It will house 50-100 staff working shifts. Read more about the new police station HERE.

The new police station is part of a Kirklees-wide shake-up which will see the district HQ for Kirklees Police move from Huddersfield to a new police station being built on the former Kirklees College site in Halifax Road, Dewsbury.

It is understood there will be no cells at the new Huddersfield Police Station and all those arrested across Huddersfield and Holmfirth will be taken to Dewsbury.

In a statement, a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “The station remains subject to planning permission but is currently intended to accommodate all the Huddersfield policing teams serving the town from Castlegate.

“This means those local officers will stay based in the communities they will continue to serve. The new station will also house a public help desk for residents to be able to attend in person.

“The existing police station on Castlegate in Huddersfield will remain in full use while the new premises are built.

“Construction also continues on the new Kirklees District Headquarters for Kirklees at Dewsbury.”
