A wellness studio has opened in Huddersfield town centre and it could help you feel – well, wired!

Wellness at St George’s Square is a venture for the mind, body and soul by Birchencliffe couple Michael and Kirsty Foggin.

The studio, which opened in St George’s Square in April, is a work in progress and will eventually represent a £300,000 investment in helping people stay well.

The couple have launched their business with a franchise for Feel Electric, a health and fitness regime that’s new to the UK but big in the United States and Germany.

Feel Electric offers a full body workout with a one-to-one personal trainer and involves electro muscle stimulation (EMS).

Participants need to wear an EMS suit – similar to a wetsuit – with the base layer designed to conduct electricity.

The electro stimulation is said to activate 98% of muscle fibres meaning one 20-minute session a week is enough. It’s a low impact routine, with moves and exercises such as squats and lunges, that is suitable for people of all ages.

Feel electric is only the start for Michael and Kirsty who are also planning on creating a bio-tech room with red light therapy and a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised environment. The extra oxygen promotes healing and helps fight infections.

They also have an InBody 770 body composition machine which measures the muscle, fat and water content of the body.

There will also be a PT suite for personal trainers to bring their clients followed a wellness deli or coffee lounge. A meal prep service could also be offered.

Kirsty said: “We have some exciting plans and everything has gone really well since we opened in April.

“Lots of people have been coming to try Feel Electric and are amazed at what it can do. It’s great for people who don’t like traditional gyms but want to stay fit and healthy.”

Feel Electric offers three routes: Transform, designed for weight loss, slimming and toning; Rehabilitation, for recovery from muscle or joint-related injuries; and Sports Pro which improves sports performance such as speed, strength, power and agility. Sessions can be private or for up to two people and cost from £25 per session.

Personal trainer Asher added: “EMS started out as a medical device as it helps with muscle-wasting conditions, but it was found to offer really effective resistance training.”

The sessions are so intense only one 20-minute session a week is needed – and that’s said to be the equivalent of up to two hours in the gym.

There’s a free trial on offer and sessions are tailored for anyone aged 16 and over and there’s no upper age limit.

The couple hope to have the studio fully up and a running before the end of 2024, however Feel Electric and the hireable PT suite are fully up and running and open now.
