Work is due to begin to replace the heating system at Brockholes Village Hall following an award of £19,995 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The grant will also enable the Brockholes Village Trust, which owns and manages the building, to install photo-voltaic panels to the roof of the extension to the Grade 2 listed former village school.

Both existing boilers are old and inefficient so replacing them will not only allow the Trust to improve efficiency, save energy and costs but also support local climate emergency initiatives.

The £25,000 project will complement other energy saving improvements recently carried out, including draught-proofing and installing energy-saving lighting following energy and heat loss surveys carried out with the support of Holme Valley Parish Council.

The work starts on August 5 and will be done by Millside Heating, based in Armitage Bridge, while the photo-voltaic panels are being installed by Coretech Electrical Services from Brockholes.

Village Trust chairman David Wyles said: “The Community Fund grant has enabled a much-needed improvement to be carried out while the hall is not being used by Brocks, the before and after school club, over the summer period.

“The work will ensure we continue to upgrade and improve a building that has been at the heart of the community since the Trust was created in 1979.”

The hall is a popular venue, hosting a wide range of activities and clubs for Holme Valley residents, private events and celebrations with additional talks and presentations organised by the Trust. Details can be found by going to www.brockholesvillagetrust.org.
