Huddersfield is to host Kirklees Pride in June which will feature a Dolly Parton tribute along with drag acts and a philharmonic orchestra.
The event will be held in St George’s Square on Saturday, June 15 from 1pm to 8pm and promises to be a fun-filled, music-packed day where everyone is invited to celebrate with the LGBTQ+ community.
The Dolly Parton act is Lucy Floyd and any rain won’t dampen the show as Dolly once said: “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow you gotta put up with the rain.”
The celebration will feature live music, stage shows and hilarious drag acts along with food and drink, workshops, stalls and face painting.

The celebration continues into the evening with a concert in Huddersfield Town Hall by Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra and the St George’s Singers at 7.30pm which will feature Poulenc’s Gloria for soprano solo, large orchestra and chorus.
One of the orchestra’s clarinettists, Ian Noonan, said: “Much has been written about Poulenc’s sexuality and sexual identity – something which you could argue he expressed in his music more than in any other public declarations.
“In private and among his many gay artist and performing friends Poulenc variously described his ‘Parisian sexuality’ and his love for fellow men, especially for painter Richard Chanlaire, of whom Poulenc wrote ‘you have changed my life, you are the sunshine of my 30 years, a reason for living and working.’
“For many of the players in Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra, music provides a raison d’être and together we celebrate the fact that our love lives need be neither secret nor anguishing.”
The two-hour concert will also feature Scriabin’s Poem of Ecstasy and Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass. Tickets are available HERE.
