The new bookshop at the National Trust offices in Marsden is set to open for the first time on Easter Saturday March 30.
From now on, those visiting the offices, which are located next to Marsden station, during weekend and holiday opening hours will be able to browse a wide selection of titles.
All have suggested donations of £1 for children’s books, £1.50 for paperbacks and £2 for hardbacks, and proceeds raised will go directly to support the Trust’s moorland restoration work.
Ian Dowson, area ranger for Marsden Moor, said: “We are so excited to open our bookshop, which we hope will be a popular addition to our offices.
“We have a great group of new volunteers to help us, who have hit the ground running and created a lovely space where people can take a pause and browse as well as buy quality titles.”
Also returning this spring are the popular plant sales, which are held every Friday in the yard at the offices – as well as a special Easter sale this Sunday.
This is great news for gardeners who want to get going on their spring gardening while helping the charity as all the young perennials and annuals are grown locally by volunteers. Handmade woodwork items are also for sale, including planters, bird boxes and troughs.
“The money raised from all of these sales will help us restore the moorland, including areas that have been affected by fires in recent years,” said Ian.
“In the summer months we need to do more to help the moorland, including planting sphagnum moss, cutting vegetation to reduce fire load, and having regular fire patrols.
“Every book, flower or planter bought will mean we can do more to look after the moor for everyone.”
The bookshop will open on weekend days from March 30 from 10am-3pm.
The plant and woodwork sales started on Friday March 22 and will run every Friday from 10am-2.30pm until October, with an additional sale on Easter Sunday March 31.
