Golcar United returned to action on home soil for the first time since early November but slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Tadcaster Albion on Saturday.
Joe Crosby cashed in on a short back pass to snatch the points with a goal 14 minutes from time.
With both Adam Field and Kiero Lawrence missing through suspension, new signings Nicky Clee and Jake Barrett filled the two centre-back positions.
As seems to be the trend of late, Golcar got off to the better start, creating a chance in the first 30 seconds where Alfie Wilkinson’s volley was caught by the visitors’ keeper.
Looking to keep up the early pressure, Wilkinson again tried his luck but the Tadcaster keeper stayed big to save. Slater Barnes had a golden opportunity to slot the rebound but his effort went just wide.
After a quarter of an hour, Tadcaster started their first real spell of pressure, which saw them have a goal disallowed for a foul on Golcar keeper Sam Kelly. This was shortly followed by a direct free-kick in a dangerous area, which their No5 thought had gone in but had in fact hit the side netting, to the Golcar fans’ amusement.
The first chance of the second half came again for the villagers, this time the ball fell to Kai Phillips on his left foot but his effort was brilliantly blocked and turned behind for a corner.
With under 15 minutes of the game remaining, the deadlock was finally broken. An under-hit back pass, which seems to be a recurring problem for the village this season, let in Crosby who then dinked over Kelly.
The win saw Albion leapfrog Golcar and the Weavers face a tough test away at leaders Campion on Saturday January 13 (3.00).
