This Saturday is Huddersfield Town’s Remembrance game which will be a poignant event at the John Smith’s Stadium.

And the club has also unveiled its special Remembrance shirt which the team will be wearing when it plays Hull City away a week on Saturday. The shirts, signed by the player who wore them, will then be auctioned with the money going to the Royal British Legion.

At the home game this Saturday collectors for the Royal British Legion will be around the John Smith’s Stadium collecting donations and a special poppy banner will be displayed in the centre circle from 2pm before the captains of both teams lay a wreath as a mark of respect.

Supporters in the Chadwick Lawrence Stand will be able to participate in an emotional remembrance display with banners on each seat in the stand. When the supporters hold the banners up in unison it will reveal a mural.

Before kick-off a bugler will play The Last Post before a minute’s silence, reflecting on the sacrifice made by all those who have fallen in conflict.

At half-time the club will profile the work of Tommy’s Lounge café on Railway Street in Huddersfield town centre which provides a comforting and homely place for veterans to meet and talk about their experiences. The café – thought to be the only one of its kind in the UK – is open to the public too and is packed full of military memorabilia.

A special military training kit will be worn by the players during the pre-match warm up, which people can buy online on shop.htafc.com or at the stadium store.

All proceeds are going to the Royal British Legion.

Town’s players will be wearing their official poppy shirt for the Hull game. All of these shirts can be bought by fans through digital auctions at https://www.matchwornshirt.com/category/poppy with the money going to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Each one will be signed by the player who wore it.

MatchWornShirt’s 2022 Poppy Appeal campaign was a spectacular success, raising more than £900,000 for the Royal British Legion.

The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal takes place from Thursday, October 26, until Remembrance Sunday on November 12.

This year, the iconic poppy has been given a make-over and is now completely plastic-free and easily recycled. It’s made entirely from paper, no longer has a single-use plastic stem or centre and can be recycled through ordinary household recycling collections.

Every donation to the RBL’s Poppy Appeal helps to provide vital support to the Armed Forces community and ensure their unique contribution is never forgotten.
