George Doyle’s fifth goal in five games wasn’t enough to earn all three points for Golcar United in a 1-1 draw against bottom club Bottesford Town at the Skye Direct Stadium.
Golcar came out of the gates flying, creating a lot of decent chances, making the breakthrough in the 16th minute.
An excellent passing move involving Danny Naidole, who was able to play in a more advanced role, was finished off by former Emley striker Doyle who continued his fine goalscoring form.
Ten minutes after taking the lead, new signing Hayden Lindley had an opportunity to get a debut goal, and double the advantage, but his effort was dragged just wide of the target.
In the 34th minute, Bottesford’s No10 Reece Moody scored the leveller against the run of play.
Into the second half, Golcar looked to get themselves back on top and came close in the 53rd minute when Doyle looked to curl an effort into the top corner but his shot went agonisingly wide.
In the 72nd minute, the village had a huge penalty shout waved away by the referee as Doyle was clattered in the back inside the 18 yard box, but the referee saw nothing wrong with the challenge.
Coming up towards the full-time whistle, Golcar were still knocking on the door, and in the 88th minute substitute Buddy Cox nearly scored with a bullet header but the Bottesford goalkeeper made a great reflex save.
Golcar United’s next game is a trip to Pickering Town in the NCEL League Cup Second Round on Tuesday October 17.
