Golcar United claimed their first win of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division season on Tuesday night as they beat Handsworth 3-2 with Dan Naidole scoring the winning goal.
Golcar boss Ash Connor was delighted his side showed grit and determination to get the win after a rocky start.
The Weavers went 1-0 down in the 2nd minute when Handsworth’s Mason Barlow scored. Golcar, however, hit back in the second half. Buddy Cox levelled the score in the 54th minute before Kai Phillips put Golcar ahead two minutes later.
Handsworth replied with a goal of their own in the 68th minute through Brandon Bagley to make it 2-2.
However, the game wasn’t finished there as Naidole struck a sublime free-kick just four minutes later to win the game for Golcar and move them to 8th in the table.

On the performance and result Connor said: “After losing the first game against Penistone Church, which was really disappointing, we knew we had to get a good performance and result against Handsworth.
“Despite not starting the game well, the team showed real fight and determination to get back into it and get the three points. No one was stopping Dan’s winner. There were some real positives to take from the game and that’s with us missing five key players out to either illness, injury or suspension.”
Golcar’s next game is a home tie to Trafford in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary round. The game takes place on Saturday August 5 (3pm). You can buy tickets HERE.
