A fun two-hour tea-tasting evening is being offered by experts at a loose leaf tea shop in Huddersfield’s Byram Arcade.
Porter Hill Tea Shop, which has 50 teas in stock, has been open in the historic arcade since February and now wants to introduce more people to the best way to enjoy tea.
Shop manager Tim Knight, who runs the business with founder Matt Porter, will host a lesson in all things tea, from bud to cup.
The first tea tasting evening is on Saturday June 24 and it’s filling up fast, though the last few places are still available. Tickets must be booked in advance and cost £20.
Tim said: “It’s our first ever tea tasting evening and we hope it’ll be the first of many. The tasting will introduce those attending to a variety of teas from around the world, charting the journey from bud to cup.
“We will have teas from six countries from white tea to fully-oxidised black tea. There’s a 100% organic tea where no pesticides are used as the leaves are nibbled by the tea green grasshopper.
“Each tea is all natural, sourced from ethically farmed estates. It will be a fun two-hour class with lots to learn and lots to take home, including custom blends.”
Porter Hill Tea Shop offers a wholesale and retail service and supplies other local hospitality venues including the Manor House Lindley and Hive Community Café in Huddersfield town centre.
The shop also creates unique special blends and is creating a Weaver’s Blend for the Colne Valley Museum in Golcar.
As tea has to be imported Porter Hill Tea Shop offsets its carbon footprint by planting trees.
Customers are welcome to pop into the shop and sample the teas. “The kettle’s always on,” said Tim.
