A motorsport festival and hill-climb to be held at Wolfstones above Meltham is a first for Yorkshire.
The Wolfstones Hill-Climb – part of the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival – is the first-ever Motorsport UK licensed hill-climb in the county to have road closures put in place. Three roads will be closed.
The festival, originally due to take place last summer, has now been re-scheduled for the weekend of June 25, 26 and 27.
Organisers have been given the green light by Kirklees Council as lockdown restrictions are eased.
The event, which will include live music, car displays, a funfair and a ‘sheep theatre’ attraction, will be held on 125 acres of open fields in and around Wolfstones Road, Bradshaw Road and Wilshaw Road.
Centrepiece of the festival will be the Wolfstones Hill-Climb, a near one-mile speed test for two-seater cars manufactured pre-1986. Cars taking part will include 40 pre-war Bentleys.
The festival is billed as a weekend event for all the family and attractions include trucks, tractors, American muscle cars, retro and vintage vehicles. There will be a Yorkshire shopping village, artisan food and drink stalls and even a beach!
Festival ambassador is ex-Formula 1 driver and TV presenter Karun Chandhok and special guest will be Sarah Crabtree from UKTV’s Bangers & Cash.
The festival is organised by the Mid-Derbyshire Motor Club to celebrate the 100th anniversary of hill-climbs in the Holmfirth area. It is hoped that 15,000 to 20,000 people will attend across the three days.
It will be a draw for diehard petrol heads and new spectators alike, with over 80 drivers a day competing to set the fastest-time-of-day or win their class by setting the quickest time up the hill.
The focus will be on the Benjafield Bentleys on Friday and Aston Martins on the Sunday. The festival will also raise funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance which will also have a presence over the weekend.

Festival CEO Michael McErlain said: “The festival is something truly spectacular that people can look forward to in the near future that combines the best of the country’s motorsport attractions with the bonus of family entertainment.
“Most of the activities take place outside and we are putting every precaution in place, going the extra mile, to ensure that our event is safe for everyone.
“We are operating as a no cash event, with all transactions completed by contactless payments, and we ask all visitors to comply with our safety directions and advisories.”
A one-day pass costs £20 for adults and £10 for juniors aged 10-15. A three-day weekend pass costs £50 for adults and £25 for juniors.
A one-day family pass (two adults and three children under 15) costs £45. Best value is a family pass for the full three days (two adults and three children under 15) which costs £75.
