A JustGiving page has been set up in memory of Huddersfield Town legend Frank Worthington whose funeral will be held today (Friday).
The flamboyant and talented former England international died in March at the age of 72. He had been treated for prostate cancer and had suffered with dementia over the last five years.
His widow Carol has revealed that the couple have had financial problems – Frank had previously been declared bankrupt over an unpaid tax bill – and they struggled to pay the mortgage in recent years.
The couple only made ends meet as Carol was a paid carer for her husband. Now it is reported she will have to sell their home in Huddersfield.
Frank’s funeral, attended by no more than 30 people due to Coronavirus restrictions, will be held today in Calderdale
.A JustGiving page has been set up to raise £5,000, 90% will go to dementia charities and 10% to help support Carol.
The JustGiving page says: “Following the death of the much-loved footballer Frank Worthington, many friends, former teammates and fans have been keen to support a charity in his name.
“This JustGiving page has been set up to raise money for dementia charities and and to help Frank’s widow Carol, who will face financial hardship as she tries to re-build her life.
“Frank was suffering with advanced dementia for the last five years of his life and was cared for at home by Carol with the support of carers.

Frank played for more than 20 clubs. He was at Huddersfield Town between 1966 and 1972, scoring 48 goals in 192 appearances.
