A Jubilee charity fundraiser is being held in the centre of Slaithwaite on Thursday.
The fun day on June 2 will be at the Waves Day Centre for adults with learning difficulties or physical disabilities featuring a brass band, afternoon teas and lots more.
The centre is next to the Handmade Bakery on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath and the event runs from 10am until 3pm. It will just be cash on the day for all the food, drink and stalls.
The centre – one of the most innovative in the UK – is creating a new sensory garden and all the money raised will go towards that.
The day will also give people a chance to see all the great work done at Waves and how it so enriches the lives of the members who go there. Crafts and plants will be on sale, all produced by the members.
Attractions include carnival games, the chance to pet a pony, face painting, favourites such as a tombola and raffle and stalls selling everything from gifts to body lotions and candles.
HD9 Community Brass (https://www.facebook.com/HD9CommunityMusic/) will be playing between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
Waves helps people aged 18 and over with learning and/or physical difficulties lead full lives with activities including performing arts, baking, making music, arts and crafts, virtual reality games, swimming, walks, horticulture in the Waves garden, caring for animals and writing their own newsletter and sharing what they do on social media.
The members also get the chance to go on exciting holidays to places such as Center Parcs, trips to the Isle of Barra in Scotland. It also provides respite care and overnight breaks when members’ families face a crisis.
