One of Huddersfield’s best-loved live music venues has given its support to The Welcome Centre food bank.
The Parish has been at the centre of Huddersfield’s live music scene for 15 years and in summer 2020 it moved to the Old Courthouse building, next to the Lawrence Batley Theatre – trebling its capacity.
After a difficult 12 months, where they have adapted their usual music venue business to takeaway food, staff at The Parish are excited to get back to doing what they do best. They plan to deliver a huge live music schedule for the town this summer.
Knowing how hard the last 12 months has been for The Parish as a business, they wanted to find ways support their local community once again.
The Parish is ready to re-open for outdoor service on April 12 and anyone booking a table is asked to make a donation in lieu of a booking fee which will be passed on to local food banks and charities.
Tom Simpson, managing director at Parish Group and Arcade Group, said “Everyone has been affected one way or another over the last year, and we wanted to do something to help those less fortunate than we have been to get back to some form of normality.
“We know that in Kirklees food bank use has increased and a lot are struggling to meet demand, so the first charity we have set up donations with is The Welcome Centre.”
Emma Greenough, fundraising manager at The Welcome Centre, said “Everyone is eagerly anticipating being able to socialise again and so the donation for tables scheme is a great idea.
“The Welcome Centre has experienced its busiest ever year and, in February alone, we provided more than 24,300 meals to local people in crisis.
“Financial support received from local fundraising helps us to provide nutritious food packs to last seven days for our clients and we are grateful that The Parish has chosen us as one of their recipients.”
