Golcar United boss Ash Connor was disappointed his side’s game against Pilkington last week fell victim to the weather but says he is looking forward to the test his team will face at home to Steeton on Saturday (January 15).
United currently sit second in the North West Counties Division One North table on 54 points after 24 games. They are three points behind top club Bury AFC who have a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
The Weavers have tasted both victory and defeat this season against Steeton. United won the league fixture away all the way back in August of last year. They were then defeated by the same side in the West Riding County Cup on penalties back in November.
On the game this weekend, Connor said: “We know Steeton very well as they came up with us from the amateur game. They are a tough side who like to battle away, we know they won’t be an easy opposition.
“We have got a full squad to choose from which is good, we just want to put the defeat to Holker Old Boys two weeks ago behind us.”
Holker are Golcar’s other main rivals for promotion and currently sit third in the table, two points behind with a game in hand. They go to unbeaten Bury AFC on Saturday in a Match of the Day showdown.
Connor added: “Holker and Bury go head to head this weekend and so someone will drop points. I aren’t going to say what result I’d prefer as I’m just concentrating on us and if we win. However it will be interesting to see how that game pans out.”
