Mike Fish struck the winner as Golcar United made it four successive victories when they beat St Helens 2-1 on Saturday to go top of the North West Counties Division One North.
Victory over the league’s bottom club saw creative midfielder and stand-in frontman Dan Naidole scoring his 16th goal of the season. He now trails top scorer Ash Flynn by three.
It was the away side who scored first in the game when Stephen Brown slotted the ball home in the 5th minute.
Naidole equalised for United in the 28th minute as he powered a header past St Helens keeper Craig Vernon.
Fish scored the winner six minutes from time when he headed home a cross. The victory sent Golcar to top spot on 36 points as previous leaders Bury AFC didn’t play this weekend.
Next up for Golcar is a home tie against Steeton in the West Riding County Cup round one on Tuesday. Their next fixture in the league is a trip to the seaside as they play AFC Blackpool next Saturday.
