Over the last two weeks, local companies have stepped up to support Huddersfield-based Project Youth Cancer’s The Big Wrap initiative, wrapping hundreds of presents that will soon be delivered to young cancer patients across the UK.

By the end of the week, gift bags containing gift vouchers, selection boxes, sweet treats and festive goodies will reach 592 young cancer patients in 45 hospitals across the UK and Ireland, just in time for Christmas.

The initiative has been made possible through the combined efforts of local businesses and volunteers.

Organisations such as Lubrizol, Locala, LFH Regulatory and PIB Insurance Brokers, have generously donated their time to prepare, wrap and package the gifts.

Special contributions have also come from Glick, which supplied the festive gift bags, and Lily O’Brien’s, which donated chocolates.

Huddersfield-based Lubrizol added to the holiday cheer with a donation of hot chocolate, while additional treats were purchased thanks to generous public donations.

Delivering these packages has been a true community effort. Hako, Paxman Scalp Cooling and Pollards Moving & Storage have provided free delivery services to hospitals, while Pass The Parcel has ensured nationwide distribution at a reduced cost.

The Big Wrap also relies on the significant support of larger donors, known as Corporate Santas. This year, businesses such as Fitton & Co Accountants, Hako, One17 Charitable Trust, PIB Insurance Brokers, Tezelec, and Lambert Print have played a vital role in ensuring the project’s success.

Pam Thornes, spokesperson for Project Youth Cancer, said: “We have been blown away by the support from local businesses.

“Project Christmas is about spreading joy to young people who face the cruelty of cancer, often away from their families during the festive season.

“Each gift is wrapped with love by our volunteers and delivered to young patients in hospitals across the UK and Ireland.”

Formerly known as The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, Project Youth Cancer has been a lifeline for young patients for over 28 years. Beyond holiday initiatives, the charity provides in-person and remote therapies to reduce isolation and empower young people during their cancer journeys.
