A mum-of-two is moving her pole, aerial and fitness business to Slaithwaite in the New Year.

Becky Lockwood, who started teaching pole fitness from her spare bedroom in Slaithwaite in 2009, has been running Wild at Heart Aerial & Fitness in Halifax town centre since 2022.

From early next year Becky is moving her business to new premises in Slaithwaite, the village where she grew up and where she still lives. The studio will be at Provender Mill in Britannia Road, opposite Aldi.

Becky described the move as a “no brainer” and said: “I’m really excited. My first ever pole fitness class was taught from my spare bedroom at home in Slawit back in 2009 so it’s like coming home, even though I never really left!”

Becky began teaching pole fitness before there were even qualifications available. Now in her 19th year of pole she’s changed and adapted to the times since her very first class.

She is now qualified as a personal trainer specialised in GP Referral, pre and post-natal, pole fitness, aerial hoop, aerial hammock, aerial yoga, boxing fitness, bungee fitness and in children’s aerial circus skills.

“When I first began back in 2009 my first customer came from a written poster I’d put up in the local newsagent’s shop window,” said Becky.

Since then she’s welcomed hundreds of students through the doors, adults and children at the private classes in Slaithwaite and her group classes in Halifax.

“I noticed there were so many gaps for fitness to be made fun and for it to be accessible to adults and kids,” said Becky.

“I added the option to train in bungee fitness at the start of this year and I began teaching aerial circus skills classes for kids. They have been so popular!

“Bungee is such a fun workout and it’s low impact making it a great workout for people who may have injured themselves or need low weight bearing on their knees or hips. You fly through the workout making it an addictive fitness programme.”

Wild at Heart Aerial and Fitness will be opening the doors in Slaithwaite in January and will also be offering small group PT sessions for women only.

Becky added: “I got myself back at the gym this year alongside teaching so many classes and I needed to be flexible.

“I found it was not only a challenge to get to the gym whilst looking after my children but the energy in the room just wasn’t comfortable.

“I decided to offer women only group PT sessions as part of our offering and although we don’t encourage you to bring children if you don’t need to, they are always welcome, especially if it means you’d miss your workout.”
