Eyecare specialist The Body Doctor Ltd, manufacturer of The Eye Doctor range of products, was a finalist in the Optical Supplier Award category at this year’s Optician Awards.
Optician magazine is the leading weekly UK journal for eyecare professionals and The Body Doctor Ltd was celebrated as a finalist at a ceremony in London last Friday.
The Body Doctor Ltd is based in Clayton West and employs over 30 people. The company is backed by science and supported by experts in the ophthalmic and medical fields, including TV’s Dr Hilary Jones.
The companies shortlisted at the Optician Awards had to demonstrate product innovation, excellent service and an understanding of their customers’ needs. This had to be backed up by successful case studies and testimonials from satisfied customers.
The Body Doctor Ltd’s sales and marketing director, Sam Wymer, said: “This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication and passion of our entire team over the last 12 years.
“Our vision has always been to devise, develop and supply innovative solutions that focus on primarily promoting and optimising eye health and this reaffirms that commitment.”
The Body Doctor Ltd recently joined forces with the menopause campaigner GenM and secured MTick menopause-friendly accreditation for nine of its leading dry eye products. Dry eye is one of the symptoms that women can experience during perimenopause and menopause.
MTick is the world’s first universal shopping symbol to signpost menopause-friendly products on packaging.
The Body Doctor Ltd’s MTick-accredited products include The Eye Doctor products Antibacterial Dry Eye Compress, Dry Eye Kit, Eye Mist, Advanced Comfort Eyelid Oil, Advanced Triple Action Eye Drops and Hypochlorous Eyelid Spray, as well as the ReMind supplements.
The latest recognition comes after the co-founder and managing director of The Body Doctor Ltd, Huddersfield businesswoman Sue Grant, was awarded an MBE for Services to Entrepreneurship in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Entrepreneur Sue and her two sons, Adam and Sam Wymer, founded The Body Doctor Ltd in 2012, with her youngest son Alexander joining the company in 2022.
The family-run business behind the Eye Doctor range of eye drops, eyelid wipes and compresses won the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2016 and again in 2021.
The company also achieved a major milestone three years ago when a patent was granted for the antibacterial shield Sterileyes, which is an integral component of the Eye Doctor hot and cold compresses and is clinically proven to reduce bacteria by 99.9%.
The granting of the patent followed five years of research and development with three independent laboratories and was a major boost for the company.
The Huddersfield-based business recently won a Fastest 50 Award for the fastest growing companies in Yorkshire.
The company continues to expand and is moving its production plant to one that is six times the size of the present site. The move will combine all production sites into one in Clayton West.
The sales and marketing office will move across the road into the former production plant to make room for the expanding team.
