A Huddersfield charity is gearing up for Christmas with a gift appeal and a couple of fun events.
Each year Ruddi’s Retreat organises its Ruddi’s Reindeer campaign when it appeals for businesses and people to become ‘reindeers’ by donating new Christmas gifts which the charity then wraps and gives away to families struggling to make ends meet.
There will also be two fundraising events between now and Christmas.
One on Saturday, November 30, will feature a Vegas Elvis tribute act at Moorside Bar and Function Suite, 170 Blackmoorfoot Road, Crosland Moor. It starts at 7.30pm with donations on the door to Ruddi’s and a raffle.
For the second fundraising event Ruddi’s wants everyone to wear a Christmas jumper on Thursday, December 12, and make a minimum £2 donation to the charity which can provide schools and businesses with a fundraising kit.
Ruddi’s Retreat founder Ali Waterworth said its Christmas gift appeal remains as important as ever.
“Families with disabled or ill children are particularly hard hit financially,” she said. “We are now collecting gifts which we are busy wrapping for distribution and need as many as we can possibly get. Each one will bring a smile to a child’s face.”
Donations should be taken to the Ruddi’s café on Station Road in the centre of Slaithwaite.
Ruddi’s Retreat provides free caravan breaks for families with children battling serious illnesses such as cancer, have life-limiting conditions or have suffered bereavement.
It has four caravans on the Primrose Valley Holiday Park near Filey and a fifth one near Blackpool.
Anyone who would like to nominate a family in need whose children would really benefit from receiving free presents this Christmas should contact Vicki Green by emailing ruddisvicki@gmail.com or phoning 01484 766050.
Vicki can also help with any questions about the two fundraising events.
