Golcar United aim to continue their unbeaten start to the season at home to Atherton LRFC tonight (Tuesday) and boss Ash Connor would prefer less of a thriller!
The Weavers have conceded the first goal in all four games so far, coming back every time to claim three wins and a draw.
In the last home game an Ash Flynn hat-trick had Golcar 4-1 up at half-time only for Nelson to score two penalties and leave joint managers Ash and Gav Connor sweating out a 4-3 victory.
On Saturday Golcar went behind at Steeton but a Flynn penalty got them back in the game just before half-time.
However, the travelling fans – and the Connor brothers – were made to wait until stoppage time for a Flynn winner. And even then there was time for more late drama as keeper Frankie McLachlan and Steeton’s Jerry White were red-carded.
“It’s not good for the manager’s heart-rate but we’ve made an unbeaten start and it’s all about momentum,” said Connor.
“Hopefully we’ll go in front for a change tonight. It would make a nice change! We have the attacking threats to score at any time in a game.
“Ash Flynn has scored six goals in three games. Then we have Buddy Cox who is always a goal threat. So I am always confident we have what it takes to score goals if needs be.
“We have started games well and then for some reason we just tail off and the opposition have scored. We then come back strong.”

Connor is expecting a tough test from tonight’s visitors to the Skye Direct Stadium.
He said: “Atherton are a good team with some good players. We know we’ll need to play well to beat them. I am really looking forward to it though.”
After tonight Golcar have a blank weekend and Connor believes the break will give his team a chance to get back up to full strength.
“We had 11 players out last Saturday due to illness and injury. Hopefully now we can start to get people back and having a weekend off will give us that chance.”

Tonight’s kick-off is 7.45 and it’s £5 adults and £3 concessions and you can pay on the gate.
