Local businessman and owner of the Huddersfield Giants, Ken Davy, has received his OBE from HRH The Prince of Wales at an Investiture Ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Mr Davy was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to community Rugby League in the 2025 King’s New Year Honours List.
He became chairman of Huddersfield Giants in 1996, and, under his leadership, the team has progressed from the Second Division to the Super League, reaching a number of Challenge Cup Finals and securing the League Leader’s Shield in 2013.
Mr Davy’s stewardship has also seen the formation of a now flourishing Giants Women’s team and youth/Academy programme.
Away from Rugby League, Mr Davy has founded a number of highly successful Huddersfield based financial services businesses, receiving a breadth of prestigious awards and accolades over the past five decades including several ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ and the Money Marketing ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Profession Award’ in 2020.
Mr Davy was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration in 2007, and subsequently named Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship, by the University of Huddersfield.
Since 2021, Mr Davy has been President of the Platinum Partners for the Forget-Me-Not Children’s Hospice.
Mr Davy said: “It was a tremendous honour to attend Windsor Castle and receive this recognition from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
“The event was made even more special by the presence of all of my four daughters who, along with my beloved late wife, Jennifer, have supported me at every step.
“I am proud that my OBE recognises two things that are very dear to my heart – the fantastic Huddersfield community and the great sport of Rugby League.”
