It’s a record-breaking year for Lindley 10k with more runners than ever set to hit the streets this year.
Both the adult race and Lindley Junior Run, which take place on Sunday June 28, sold out well in advance.
And because the event is set to be the biggest ever, organisers are appealing for more volunteers to help ensure the day is a big success.
Organised by Lindley Community Group, the junior run starts at 9am followed by the Lindley 10k at 9.30am.
Every penny raised from the event is re-invested directly back into community events.
Proceeds help the Lindley Community Group fund vital local initiatives, including the upkeep and open days for the historic Lindley Clock Tower, and the annual Christmas evening on Lidget Street.
Because this year’s event is the largest in history, ensuring the safety and smooth running of the day is more vital than ever.
With runner registration completely closed, the community group is shifting its focus to an urgent appeal for local residents to join the team behind the scenes.
Volunteers are needed on Sunday June 28 to step up as route marshals to guide the massive pack of runners safely along the course, as well as start/finish line helpers to manage the vibrant event hub, assist at race headquarters and hand out well-deserved medals.
Clr Anthony Smith, secretary of the Lindley Community Group, said: “We are absolutely blown away by the response this year.
“To have the race completely full so far in advance proves just how much love there is for this event.
“Because it’s going to be our biggest field of runners ever, we need a record-breaking volunteer team to match.
“Whether you can give a couple of hours to marshal a junction or help us hand out medals at the finish line on Lidget Street, you will be a vital part of making Lindley history.”
