A new exhibition exploring the role of post offices in communities in Huddersfield, Dewsbury and India has opened at the University of Huddersfield.
Post Office Cultures runs at the Bath House Gallery, Sovereign Design House, until Wednesday September 2.
The exhibition brings together research, film, 3D digital scanning, sound recordings, oral histories, letter writing and community stories to look at the history and meaning of post offices in the UK and India.
The show has a strong local focus, with material linked to Huddersfield Delivery Office, Dewsbury Post Office and archive footage from Batley.
Visitors can also hear oral histories, take part in community activities and see work created through a partnership between the University of Huddersfield and the World University of Design in India.
The project includes footage from a research trip to India, where the team 3D laser scanned Shimla General Post Office. There is also a film about Shimla and Dewsbury, alongside a soundscape created with artists.
The exhibition is part of Post Office Cultures, an Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project led by researchers, artists and communities in Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Shimla and Delhi.
Organisers say the project looks at post offices as places of memory, work, migration, community and connection.
During July, there will be free guided tours, workshops and activities at the gallery, with many sessions taking place on Saturdays.
The programme includes creative workshops for South Asian Heritage Month, with activities based around making, storytelling, digital methods and audio.
All events are free, but advance booking is required through Eventbrite.
The exhibition is open Monday to Thursday and Saturdays, 10am to 3pm, and Fridays, 10am to 2.30pm.
An exhibition preview will be held on Thursday July 30 from 4pm to 7pm.
Visitors should go to the entrance of Sovereign Design House on Queen Street South Annexe, Huddersfield. The gallery is on the ground floor, with seating available on request and support for access requirements where needed.
