Three arrested after police ‘show of intent’ on Golcar estate blighted by anti-social behaviour

Residents on a Golcar estate have been urged to report anti-social behaviour after a police day of action.

Officers from Kirklees Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team say they are determined to crack down on anti-social behaviour blighting the Sycamore Estate.

During a targeted action day as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week last week, police arrested three young people and moved on youths causing a nuisance.

Police officers were joined by officials from Kirklees Council and also West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Vulnerable residents were checked on and there was an environmental sweep and a community clean up.

Police said three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of criminal offending in recent weeks and were now being dealt with by youth justice early intervention teams.

Officers have also used Section 35 dispersal order powers to move on groups causing a nuisance.

Sgt Diane Shaw, of Kirklees Rural NPT Team, said: “We know the concerns residents rightly have on this estate about anti-social behaviour and we want them to know we and our partners hear those concerns loud and clear and are taking action to address them.

“Our day of action has been a show of intent to showcase that we can bring all manner of agencies to this area to listen, and act, both in the here and now and in the longer term.

“Officers and partners spent the day speaking with residents, carrying out fire safety and environment checks, and carrying out clean-up work.”

Sgt Shaw added: “Investigations into anti-social behaviour in the Sycamore Avenue area also continue.

“We have so far identified and arrested three teenage suspects who are now being dealt with via the youth justice system.

“It is really important anyone who is a victim of anti-social behaviour comes forwards and contacts either us as their NPT or our partners at Kirklees Council.

“Anti-social behaviour can ruin residents’ day-to-day lives and we are determined to put a stop to it.

“Reports of this behaviour help us build up the evidence to take action so if you have witnessed or been a victim of crime, please get in touch on 101 or online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat

“Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
