The University of Huddersfield wants your film for an exhibition celebrating culture and communities

The University of Huddersfield is celebrating the community and wants films for an upcoming exhibition.

Stories in Motion is an exhibition that will run at the Sovereign Design House and Bath House Galleries on the university campus from January 26 2026 to May 1 2026.

The films can be homemade, professional – or somewhere in between – but the deadline for submission is Friday December 19 2025 at 12noon.

The Stories in Motion exhibition aims to celebrate the culture, communities and stories of Kirklees, showcasing films and moving image works that celebrate, challenge, inform and inspire change.

It marks the beginning of an ongoing conversation about cultural development in Kirklees.

Prof Rowan Bailey, strategic lead for research in Arts and Humanities, said: “We’re looking to feature all kinds of stories in moving image, from homemade to professional, and especially welcome stories from voices that may not usually be heard from the past and present, and from people who feel their voice or story gets overlooked or missed.

“We welcome submissions from across the Kirklees district, including voices that are often under-represented.”

The exhibition is part of Cultures of Film, a wider, collaborative project between cultural and creative partners from Kirklees and the Centre for Cultural Ecologies in Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield.

Themes for submissions include:

  • Learning – how are people in all stages of life engaging in learning through cultural activity?
  • Health & Wellbeing – how is engaging in creative and cultural activity helping people to live healthier and happier lives?
  • Heritage – how do diverse voices shape heritage narratives and spaces?

Stories are welcome from Colne Valley, Meltham, Holme Valley, Huddersfield, Kirkburton, Denby Dale, Mirfield, Dewsbury, Batley and Spen Valley.
