An awards scheme for businesses in Huddersfield has some new categories this year.

The Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce awards – known as MY Awards for short – is back for a third year.

It’s open to businesses throughout Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield and is free for members to enter but £150 for non-members per entry although that’s reduced to £100 if the application is made by March 29. The closing date for entries is early June with the awards ceremony in September.

The three new awards are Young Business of the Year (applicants must have started trading since January 1 2021), SME of the Year (under 250 employees) and Large Business of the Year (over 250 employees).

The other categories are Community Hero, Entrepreneur of the Year, Green Business of the Year, Diversity and Inclusion Award, Innovation Award, International Business of the Year and Employer of the Year.

Winners will also be selected for Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield Member of the Year and an overall Chamber Member of the Year winner will be an announced.

Martin Hathaway, managing director of the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are thrilled to bring the MY Awards back for a third year which promises to be bigger and better than before.

“The introduction of three new categories will help us to celebrate the achievements of even more business across the Halifax, Huddersfield and Wakefield.”

Taking home trophies at last year’s awards were Bespoke Stairlifts Limited, Faith Brand Communications, Flat Stan First Aid Limited, Gina Reid, HAD-Print, Huddersfield Giants Community Trust, Ideal Autolease, Kirklees Stadium Development Ltd, Sewtec Automation Limited and Solupak Limited.

Stuart Nimmo, operations director at HAD-Print, 2023’s Chamber Member of the Year winner, said: “Being recognised for what you do in your wider community makes a difference. We all have skills and experience but how you bring them to play within your business is what makes the difference. The art of leading as you’d expect others to do is a small act but can make big impacts.”

The awards are now open for entries until June 7, 2024. The awards ceremony will be held at the Chamber’s glitzy annual dinner at Dean Clough Mills in Halifax on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
