A social group for women in Huddersfield has now set up a running group.
The Girls Chat was established in 2024 by 24-year-old Ashleigh Schofield from Marsden who realised that some young women can be isolated, lonely or simply need a wider social circle.
Ashleigh said: “What began as a supportive space for women to connect has quickly evolved into a thriving community offering real-life events, group hikes and an active group chat – all designed to bring women together in meaningful ways.
“Now, with the introduction of SheSprints, we are adding fitness to its growing list of empowering initiatives.’’
SheSprints is every Wednesday at 6.30pm in Slaithwaite and is a welcoming 5K run designed for women of all abilities.
More than just a run club, it’s a safe and encouraging environment where participants can build confidence, improve their wellbeing and form genuine friendships.

Ashleigh’s friend Alex Burke leads the sessions, plans routes and motivates participants every step of the way.
Ashleigh (above) said: “Alex has been incredible from day one. She brings such a positive energy to every session and has a real ability to make every woman feel capable and confident, no matter their starting point.
“I’m so grateful to have her leading SheSprints – she’s truly an asset to what we’re building.”
At its core, The Girls Chat is about more than events, it’s about belonging. Whether it’s through a hike, a conversation or crossing the finish line of a 5K, the community continues to prove that connection can be life-changing.
Anyone wanting to join can turn up on Wednesdays at 6.30pm at the canal side by the Little Bridge, message @thegirlschatco on Instagram or email hello@thegirlschat.co.uk
