Domestic abuse survivors are to benefit from new funding received by Kirklees Council.

The funding will be used to provide therapy and counselling for survivors and their children who are in safe accommodation.

This is a key part of the Government’s Domestic Abuse Bill which will come into effect later this year, subject to the bill becoming law.

Clr Carole Pattison, Cabinet Member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities at Kirklees Council, said: “Domestic abuse in all its many forms is an abhorrent crime and that is why this funding is extremely welcome.

“In Kirklees we are already providing support to victims in a variety of ways but this funding will be crucial in boosting our response to victims and their children.

“Those who unfortunately suffer from domestic abuse, and their families, more often than not require specialist support and this money will be used to help us enhance our current offer.

“If you, or someone you know, suffers from domestic abuse then please reach out, support is available.”
