Huddersfield Town have made it to the Championship play-offs, Carlos Corberan’s men were unbeaten in April and now it’s time to see whether May can be a special end to what has been a fantastic campaign.
Town picked up 16 points out of a possible 18 in April, winning five matches and drawing one. Harry Toffolo is my player of the month and I’ll explain why later.
The Terriers started April by travelling to Hull on a Friday night. Having lost 3-0 to Bournemouth the game before, the international break came at a good time for Town.
Huddersfield wanted to get off to a good start in April and they did just that by taming the Tigers and clinching a 1-0 win. The winner was scored in the 79th minute by that man Toffolo.
Town then hosted promotion rivals Luton Town at the John Smith’s Stadium which was a crucial fixture in the Terriers’ promotion push.
Town put the Hatters to bed with a good 2-0 victory. Jon Russell with a cross-cum-shot goal got them off to a good start and Naby Sarr sealed the victory late on.
A 2-2 draw with QPR followed which effectively ended the London club’s play-off push.
Huddersfield then travelled to Middlesbrough on Easter Monday, a stadium where the Terriers regularly find it tough. In what was one of the performances of the season, Town bossed the Boro in their own backyard.
Goals by Sarr and Jordan Rhodes got the victory. Rhodes’ goal was a classic Jordan strike, more of the same please, Rhodesy lad.
Town then hosted Barnsley and, unlike previous feisty meetings between the two, this one was tinged with sadness as Town defeated the Tykes and relegated them to League One. Toffolo and Rhodes again scored the goals.

In the run up to Town’s trip to Coventry for the club’s penultimate regular league fixture, Town fans were sad to hear of the passing of popular supporter Daryl ‘Daz’ Hopson who had been diagnosed with incurable cancer.
Daryl, 31, reached out to the Town faithful on social media and his Terrier spirit touched the hearts. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise £5,000 towards his funeral costs and to “give him the send off he deserves.” To donate click HERE.
Coventry’s last chance of a play-off spot had been extinguished the week before, and while they gave Town a serious test and really should have won the game with the chances they created, Town made their quality count.
Toffolo was on target again with a contender for goal of the season. Highly-rated Tino Anjorin, on loan from Chelsea, scored the winner by slotting away a penalty in the 79th minute.
With Town having a fabulous April, thoughts now turn to the play-offs. Who would the Terriers want to take on in the two-legged play-off semi-final? It seems likely to be Luton Town – a team we can definitely beat.
It will be interesting to see what Carlos does against Bristol City at home in the final regular game next weekend. Will he aim to keep up the momentum or might he rest a few and risk going into the play-offs on the back of a defeat?
My player of the month has been Harry Toffolo, of course. His passion and desire to succeed is a joy to watch. Toffs has been outstanding, particularly in front of goal. He has scored four priceless goals this month.
Just one more thing for me to say. Please sign that new contract, Toffs. Ta!
