Public consultation over TransPennine Route Upgrade works in the Colne Valley extended by a month

Public consultation has been extended over plans for a major rail upgrade scheme in the Colne Valley.

The consultation, which opened on February 16, had been due to run until March 27 but it’s now been extended until April 24.

Local people are being asked for their views on the latest stage of the TransPennine route Upgrade between Standedge and Gledholt.

The scheme includes new railway stations for Marsden and Slaithwaite and work on bridges and viaducts, some of which are grade II-listed.

As part of the extended consultation period, an additional public drop-in event has been arranged:

  • Saturday April 18 2026, 10am-1pm at Marsden Mechanics, Peel Street, Marsden, HD7 6BW.

Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the proposals in more detail.

The proposals form part of the multi-billion-pound TransPennine Route Upgrade to modernise the railway between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York, delivering faster, more frequent and greener trains on a better, cleaner and more reliable railway.

A number of temporary construction compounds are being proposed at Marsden Goods Yard; West Slaithwaite Road; New Street; Lees Mill Lane; and land near Titanic Spa.

A spokesperson for TRU said: “A Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) is required to deliver elements of the proposed scheme. This is a piece of legislation approved by the Secretary of State for Transport, granting permission to carry out the work.

“Following the close of the consultation, all feedback will be carefully considered before Network Rail submits its TWAO application to the Secretary of State later this year.”

The proposals can be viewed online via the dedicated virtual consultation room at https://www.networkrail.co.uk/standedge-to-gledholt-scheme.
