Photographer launches ‘40 Over 40’ project aiming to help women over 40 feel good in their skin

Huddersfield photographer John Woods has opened applications for a new studio portrait project aimed at women over 40.

The ‘40 Over 40’ project invites women from across Huddersfield and the surrounding area to be photographed as they are, not as some idealised version they are expected to be.

The photography session includes professional hair, make-up and styling at his Byram Arcade studio.

John, who has run John Woods Photography from the arcade for almost 40 years, said the project is built on a straightforward idea: women over 40 are too often told they should step away from the camera.

“That is nonsense,” said John. “This project is not about chasing youth or pretending age has not happened.

“It is about being photographed as you are, with all the experience that comes with it. Looking like yourself is enough.”

After the session, participants will be sent a short questionnaire. Their answers will form the text of a bespoke magazine, with portraits and real stories sitting side by side to reflect the lives of local women over 40.

The session costs £125 and full details and how to apply can be found at www.johnwoodsphotography.com
