North Defence unveils mission-ready Light Mobility Vehicle tested on the frontline in Ukraine

Huddersfield entrepreneur Oliver North has unveiled the latest version of a military vehicle tested on the frontline in Ukraine.

Mr North, founder and CEO of North Defence, supplied the North Defence Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) to the Ukrainian army where the vehicle saw operational use on the frontline.

Now the European-based company with factories in Luxembourg and West Yorkshire has showcased the second generation LMV – based on a Ford Ranger chassis – with 130 now in production ready for immediate deployment in Europe and Ukraine.

The North Defence team engineered and built the first LMVs at the start of 2025 with vehicles supplied onto the frontline in Ukraine, as well as various NATO member organisations.

The first generation vehicle won praise for its stealth, speed and efficiency on the ground and the Mark II version adds new features that raise the bar.

Former soldier Mr North previously manufactured state-of-art firefighting vehicles and last year re-focused and re-branded his business, pivoting from civil defence to military defence. Read more about that HERE.

Mr North said the new LMV further enhanced the company’s aim to provide best-in-class vehicles at pace.

“At North Defence we have a plethora of former Army engineers and soldiers within our team and they, alongside our tech-driven automotive engineers, mean we have the practical experience and expertise to deliver exactly what is needed,” he said.

“The defence industry is under huge pressure to meet capacity requirements and we are ready to meet those demands.

“We are all about quality at speed and we will only continue to get faster to meet the production challenges given to us.”

The Mark II LMV have uprated suspension and wheels with ballistically protected tyres. The vehicles have independent power, new software and stealth functionality.

Mr North regularly travels to Ukraine with the vehicles he supplies to gain first hand feedback from frontline soldiers and learn how the latest technology is being used on the battlefield.
