Marsden Mechanics hosts great line-up of diverse music from five bands for just a fiver

Music-lovers have the chance to see five bands for just £5 in Marsden.

The line-up promises festival vibes with the sounds including Afro-beat, psychedelic funk punk and New Orleans riot jazz artists alongside local folk rock and a DJ.

The showcase at Marsden Mechanics on Friday, May 8 is called Eclectica and has been promoted by Chocolate Fireguard run by well-known Huddersfield musician Pat Fulgoni.

The line-up is Flat Moon (pictured above), Ubunye, Deadbeat Brass, The Valleys, Nico Harmony and DJ Ras! Putin.

Ubunye is a vibrant Afro-jazz band featuring two powerful vocalists from South Africa’s Kwa Zulu Natal region combined with a dynamic rhythm section that’s a unique blend of contemporary jazz, Afro-pop and traditional ‘Isigqui’ Zulu music.

Flat Moon crash land somewhere between funk and punk, a bizarre 6-piece collective that create and perform high-energy groove-centred music.

Deadbeat Brass is made up of 10 of the north’s finest horn and percussion players to produce a big brass sound that’s a fusion of New Orleans jazz, funk, grunge and Latin grooves.

The Valleys are named after the Colne and the Holme Valley and the local beer from the Riverhead Brewery, Happy Valley.

They are a folk and rock band with hip-hop, blues and jazz influences.

Nico Harmony blends jazz, folk and reggae influences into a warm, slow-burning sound with hypnotic guitar and soulful, shape-shifting vocals.

DJ Ras! Putin delves into the eclectic and was DJ at Huddersfield’s legendary Timeless Festival.

Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
