Kirklees Council is again joining forces with other local authorities in Yorkshire to encourage more people to find out about fostering.

By fostering with your local council, you can play a huge part in ensuring children and young people can stay in their home area, at their school and near their family and friends.

An online event will be held on Wednesday April 14 and is open to everyone. It will be a great chance to chat with existing foster carers in the region, plus fostering teams, and have all your questions answered.

Kirklees foster carers receive expert training, a weekly allowance and a vast network of support, including from specialist workers.

Mel Meggs, strategic director for children’s services, said: “Kirklees foster carers do an amazing job in supporting some of our most vulnerable children and young people.

“Fostering changes lives. It can be incredibly rewarding for the carers and their family and it helps children to find a loving home and enjoy the best start in life.

“Fostering with your local council makes a profound difference because it means the child or young person is less likely to face the stress and disruption of having to move to a different area.

“We are delighted to be involved in the online event, which will be the perfect chance for people to find out all they need to know.”
