A new Summer Craft Fair with food and drink will take place this weekend at Huddersfield Ukrainian Club at Edgerton.

This first collaboration between the organisers, Crafty Baggage, Crafty Praxis and Huddersfield Ukrainian Club, seeks to bring more recognition to local sellers and bring together communities after a tough year.

The fair, on Sunday August 8 (10am-4pm), will be a market-style event where visitors will be able to browse over 20 independent stalls ranging from handmade jewellery, pottery, pyrography, greetings cards and food and drink from local sellers.

There will be numerous indoor and outdoor activities for all ages and interests running alongside the craft stalls. A traditional Ukrainian Dance Troupe, Золота Калина, will be performing on stage with craft workshops also taking place.

Outside there will be lots of food and drink tents, with a Gypsy Jazz jam session in one marquee, and children’s activities such as face painting in another.

Learn more about Huddersfield’s Ukrainian community

For those who enjoy sport, the chairman of Huddersfield’s Pétanque Club, Paul Simpkins, will be hosting demonstrations on the club’s pétanque court.

Moreover, tours of the Ukrainian Club will also be taking place, offering the opportunity to learn the history of Huddersfield’s Ukrainian community and see the beauty of the large Victorian mansion and its grounds.

Two of the organisers, Crafty Baggage and Crafty Praxis, are no strangers to organising craft fairs.

Debbie Ball and Katie Rayner, the respective owners, regularly host craft workshops in the Bryam Arcade and the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Teaming up with the Ukrainian Club has provided them with a new springboard to showcase local craft businesses.

Huddersfield Ukrainian Club set to throw open its doors

Petro Dorotiak, the event’s organiser from the Ukrainian club’s committee, added: “Our club and many other similar venues have had their doors closed for too long.

“We wanted to put on an event for the local community which would also help small businesses. Teaming up with Debbie and Katie is the perfect solution.”

Entrance to the event, and onsite parking, will be free. The club is at Edgerton Road, Edgerton, HD1 5RA.
